How do I enter in a new access number for my Spectrum scanner?

Access Code

Turn on the scanner and wait for initialization to complete. When ready, the scanner should display the home menu, which will look like this:

Alternatively, it may display a “LOAD PAPER” message.

 

On the scanner’s front panel, press the “CLEAR” key, then press the left arrow key several times until the "Enter new scanner Key?" menu is displayed, which will look like this:

Press the F1 key (OK). The scanner display will show the code and key menu, with the code value pre-selected. Technical Support will ask you for this Access Code, so write down this 8-digit code and save it.

Enter the NEW Access Number

You will receive the scanner’s Access Number once you call Böwe Bell + Howell Technical Support at (847) 423-3018 and provide them with the scanner’s Access Code. Back at the code and key menu, press the F2 key: "KEY"

You will be prompted to enter the Access Number. To do so, use the scanner’s +/- buttons to enter each character of the Access Number, and left/right buttons to move from one character to the next.

Once you have entered the Access Number, press the F3 key (OK).

 

If you have entered the Access Number correctly, you will see the following screen displaying your new or current scanner model:

 

Unlimited Usage

 OK    Model:    8125DC                            ^

 

The model will vary but should display the updated version of your newly upgraded Spectrum scanner.

Important! Press F1 (OK) – if you forget step, your scanner will not be fully programmed. After pressing F1 you will then see:

If you have entered the incorrect Access Number, you will see the following screen:

Power cycle scanner…
