Error: Communication with Scan Station PC or Invalid "Out of Paper" Fault
If your SCSI connected Sidekick series scanner stops communication with the scan station PC, or has an invalid fault "out of paper" check the following indications.
-
A Windows update has been applied.
-
New software installed or updated.
If both or one of the above conditions have occurred, the ASPI layer may have been updated to a newer version that is not compatible with the scanner to PC interface.
Solution:
Windows Device Manager:
Open the Windows Device Manager and locate the scanner. It should be listed under Imaging Devices. Right-click on the scanner device and select "Disable". Once the scanner is disabled in Device Manager, click OK to close it and try scanning again. The error should be resolved.

BBH 1400 SCSI #4 has been disabled. There is no need to "disable" any USB device.
If this procedure does not correct the problem, please continue.
