Error: "New Hardware Not Found"

When you connect the scanner through SCSI, no special device driver is required.  Always follow the quick install instructions first.

When you start Windows for the first time after connecting a scanner, Windows will report that it has detected "New Hardware", and lists three options for installing a new driver.  Click on the button that says, "Do not install a driver."  Sidekick 1200 or 1400 series SCSI scanners require only the ASPI driver or manager for your SCSI controller to be loaded in order to operate under Windows.  They do not require any additional system drivers.

Note:  When you connect the scanner through SCSI, the scanner item will appear in the "Device Manager" list under the "System' control panel as "? Other devices."  It should identify the scanner under "? Other devices" and have a yellow exclamation point next to it.  Please ignore the exclamation point.  It will not affect the proper functionality of the scanner.  Make sure your SCSI ASPI driver is installed correctly.  See if there is an icon that says "SCSI Controllers."  If it is not listed, then run "Add New Hardware" to install your SCSI controller drivers.  If there is a yellow exclamation point or red cross through the SCSI controller icon, then your ASPI driver or ASPI manager is not installed correctly (Contact your SCSI controller manufacturer for installation instructions).
