Multifeed Detection

The multifeed detection in Sidekick 1200 and 1400 works by measuring the length of the document that is scanned and comparing it to the paper size setting, within the scanning application.*

*Note. Multifeed is disabled when document length is set to maximum.

The Sidekick 1400u features Ultrasonic Multifeed Detection

Ultrasonic multifeed uses sound waves to detect multiple documents going through the scanner at the same time. This technology assures you that all of your documents get scanned.

Ultrasonic multifeed detection from Böwe Bell + Howell consists of two sensors: a transmitter below the paper transport and a receiving sensor above. The transmitter emits an ultrasonic wave through the document. Normally, only one document is being fed through at a time, causing this wave to pass through the paper and directly into the top sensor.

If multiple documents feed through, small gaps of air get trapped between the pages. When the ultrasonic wave hits the combination of the air gap and additional paper, the signal falls below a certain threshold and the receiver interprets this as a multifeed. The scanner transport then stops and the user is notified that a multifeed has occurred so that it can be quickly resolved as soon as it happens. Thus, ultrasonic multifeed detection from Böwe Bell + Howell ensures that no data is lost if multiple documents feed through simultaneously. See the illustration below.

Never Scan the Entire Batch Again Because of a Multifeed. Just detecting multifeeds is important, but users need a fast and efficient way to resolve them.

Auto Resolve

With Auto Resolve, if a multifeed is detected, Sidekick prevents the image from being sent to the scanning application. The multifed document is immediately re-scanned without losing its place in the image batch. This significantly increases scanning efficiency. By eliminating the need to re-scan the document and then insert it into the correct batch after the batch is complete, the operator spends more time scanning and less time rescanning multifed documents.

Multifeed Ignore

With Multifeed Ignore, the scanner can be quickly and easily set up to allow an intended multifeed document to be successfully scanned. This includes documents with attached sticky notes, photographs or envelopes. The Multifeed Ignore feature allows you to capture all of the document’s information without extra document preparation.
