Windows Vista Operating System Compatibility
BÖWE BELL + HOWELL Scanners is committed to supporting its customers in their transition to the Windows® Vista™ operating system (OS).
We have tested the current versions of Sidekick and determined that it is compatible with Windows Vista under the following configuration:
- Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit Operating System (OS). Windows Vista Ultimate offers all of the features found in Windows Vista Business.
- Kofax VRS 4.10.088. This is the full version of VRS 4.1 with Service Pack 2, with a clean install.
Direct ISIS/TWAIN drivers were also tested for each scanner. Direct drivers can be found on the installation resource CD that ships with your scanner.
To configure VRS:
- Determine which version of VRS you have. If you need to load the full version of VRS 4.1 with Service Pack 2 (VRS 4.10.088), you must first uninstall your current VRS software. For instructions on how to uninstall VRS with Sidekick, please follow the steps outlined in our FAQ: http://www.bbhscanners.com/support/spectrum_xf/faqs/faq_Unistall_VRS.html.
- Disable Windows “User Account Control” (UAC). Go to Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts and click the link for “Turn User Account Control on or off”. Uncheck the box and restart your computer to save the change. If you fail to turn UAC off before beginning the installation you will be required to do so before the installation continues.

- Re-enable Windows “User Account Control” (UAC). Go to Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts and click the link for “Turn User Account Control on or off”. Check the box and restart your computer to save the change.
