KSSFU – unknown error (Status=9199)

Question: When using FWLoader.exe in VRS v3.05 - v4.1 and trying to upload a new *.bin file (EGSA update), I get the following error, KSSFU – unknown error (Status=9199). FWLoader is used by qualified service personnel to update the EGSA PCB inside the Spectrum Series scanners.

Answer: In order for the FWLoader.exe to function correctly with the Spectrum Series scanners, you'll need to set up the following:

1. In the Spectrum / Spectrum XF-Service Menu>SCSI>Wide> (+ / -), to toggle Enable or Disable, set to disable.
2. Reboot the scanner. Wait until the “Load Paper” is displayed.
3. Reboot the PC.
4. Run, C:\Program Files\Kofax\Imgctls\Bin\FWLoader.exe

Note*  If FWLoader cannot be found, locate the VRS CD-ROM with your version of VRS and go to the folder - \Scanner Drivers\FirmwareSetup.exe. Run the SETUP.EXE to install the FWLoader.

Note: if you want, you can leave the scanner set to SCSI WIDE=DISABLED, then you will not need to go through the reboot cycle to use the firmware loader. The performance effects of doing this are negligible.
