How it works:
The Silex Device Server has an input for a USB scanner (device) that can be remotely accessed over a network, using an Ethernet RJ-45, CAT 5 cable. Either the Sidkick or Truper series already installed scanner drivers connect and communicate with Windows® and the Silex drivers, and appear in the scanning applications "scanner select" GUI.
The Silex Device Server works by broadcasting a built in IP address over a TCP/IP network and by using it's user utility, allows a user to login the device. Once a user has logged in, the utility will assign a USB port and establish a direct link to the device attached to the Device Server
Additional install information can be found in the Silex user/installation manual, which includes install instructions. Pleasse note, BBH Scanner support is limited to that of our scanners and our scanners working with this device. Kofax® VRS licensing only allows one user per BBH scanner at a time. Additional Silex support should be directed to Silex Corp at www.silexamerica.com
Notes
- The Silex PC software utility should be loaded on all PC’s in a small workgroup environment so that users may share the scanner as a resource. Although only one user can login at a time.
- Scanning from the active PC workstation, across a network, may reduce overall document throughput. This depends on network traffic, PC and Server anti-virus software and other applications running on the PC.
- It is recommended that the amount of PC RAM (installed physical memory) in the user’s PC be at least 512 MB (megabyte) to 1 GB (gigabyte), and be adequate to accommodate large data packet transfers for graphic image files.
- The PC’s “Virtual Memory” (pagefile.sys) should be increased. The standard MS Windows recommendation is 3 times the physical memory installed. For example a PC with 768 MB RAM installed, should have it's "virtual memory" set to 2304 MB, considering the hard drive free space available.
- Do not use a USB hub with the Silex Device Server. Connect directly to the PC's USB 2.0 input.
- Silex install instructions are included.
